Enslaved

Whoever knows me personally, knows how seldom I make custom figures. It takes a passion for a specific subject to meet and match my love for action figures.

When I first saw Enslaved ( on Heavenly Nariko, when I bought Heavenly Sword – also by Ninja Theory) I fell in love by its atmosphere (i know it sounds corny, but it’s true) and Monkey, the main character (I might have a thing for buff-sensitive-macho characters) and I thought ” hey that’s a good use for a savage dragon” I must admit I searched around even for UFC figures for him ( I must also admit that I can’t punctuate my sentences right)

I finally got the game and just by starting the first 30 minutes or so, I knew I HAD to make a Tripitaka too (after playing the demo dozens of times i wasn’t still very sure) and after the Aquarium scene (no spoilers here) I confirmed that savdrag’s wonderful articulated fingered huge hands would be a perfect match

It would be pretty much a as-long-as-it-takes project, but then they announced on Facebook that they would have a contest – and I do believe deadlines are of help to an artist as the process of finishing a piece is pretty much the time you give up

funny story is, i did mess up the due date and ended up not even entering the contest XD whadahell… anyway…

Getting the figures at my fav store (after a quick internet search for what to use for Trip – new Elektra seemed a pretty popular base – and they had it there) I stumbled upon the amazing x3 movie beast legs

I extended the waist and gave it a custom ball joint (pretty tricky) as I believe Monkey’s capoeira torso is one of hos most recognizable features, and dremeled the hell out the rest to get his right silhouette

I think from that is history, recipe is:

Monkey:

  • -Legendary Heroes Savage Dragon waist up
  • -X3 movie Beast waist down
  • -staff is a pencil
  • -sash is cloth
  • -belt is EVA

How cool is that? How many figures you know that can actually hold this pose?

Trip:

  • -Hasbro Skrull Elektra
  • -belt is also EVA
  • -dragonfly is wire and sculpt
  • -screen is printed on transparency (thats a nice story, i first thought of painting it and actually thought it would be faster then cleaning a screenshot- duh!- I recreated it on photoshop)

Oh, the base!

I felt I really needed to represent the game’s beautiful environments in a way, so I got what I liked most and felt would represent it well – I really like the ship’s wings (also around on the bridge and when you meet Pigsy) and what I felt is one of the best boss’ fights ever – the way the tension builds until you face the C-Dog the first time is just delicious

so, it’s pretty much a Legends Sabretooth Sentinel base that I had laying around, some probably Spiderman base (for the sign – not to spoil anything, I think there’s a good nod if you played the game) sculpted the C-Dog (I confess, with Mighty Putty for its fast dry)

check them also on my deviantart(here and here) it’s fun to see the +fav thing go up

Bonus fun: Guess what these two guys have in common ;) (oh yeah, and I hooked up eddie a base to rock on top)

Thank You Ninjas for Twitting!

Wow. Simply awesome! I saw these on Kotaku which oddly didn’t reference you & that these were custom. I Googled immediately so that I could buy them & sadly was disappointed that these are not in production. I wish my Nariko fig had your face on her! Great work man. Seriously.
